E134 Haukelivegen – Mat, natur og kultur mellom øst og vest

A coffee table book showing the gems of food, nature and culture along one of the main roads between the east and west of Norway.

This is the first of a trilogy of books we designed about the road and connecting roads. The series gives inspiration for exploring the area and stopping along the road – and perhaps making a detour.

The books are in an unusual landscape format, giving ample room for large images of Norway's beautiful nature. The short texts are given room to breathe and for the reader to explore different regions in no strict order.

Kristian Hus – Skimt frå livet og lokalmiljøet gjennom 80 år

A biography summarising the life of a journalist, editor, writer and entrepreneur.

This collection of texts and historical images gives a summary of the life of Kristian Hus, from growing up, through education and experiences and his later entrepreneurial endeavours. The second half of the book also gives insights into local event that not only shaped his life, but also the local society where he lives.

Fartøyhistorie frå Halsnøy, Fjelberg og Valen 1900–2023

An encyclopedia of boats and vessels from the west coast of Norway.

This first part of two large volumes collects a large register of maritime vessels from the region on the west coast of Norway. It recounts owners, functions, sizes and other detailed information about the boats. In addition, many interviews and articles are found here, making these books valuable for anyone interested in the maritime history of this particular region and in cultural history in general.

Angola after Dos Santos

Anthology on the development in Angola.

José Eduardo dos Santos stayed in power for 38 years, through both war and peace. This anthology focuses on what came next – the regime of the country’s third MPLA president, João Lourenço. Angolan and Norwegian researchers explore a range of issues and offer insights on the developments in Angola after the end of the dos Santos regime.

The book comes in both an English and a Portuguese version.

Lokalavisa – nær og kjær

Book on the role of local newspapers in Norway.

Godt vaksen

CMI Insight

Paper on poverty and food insecurity in Afghanistan.

Impact evaluations in Norwegian development cooperation

Making it readable

Designing a publication isn’t just about arranging words on a page. It’s about honoring the effort behind the ideas — and presenting them with clarity, precision, and elegance.

Whether you’re a university preparing a research report, a government body publishing a policy document, or an author finishing your book, the way it looks shapes how it’s received.

I specialize in turning manuscripts into professional publications — from short papers to multi-volume projects.

If you’re ready for your work to carry the weight it deserves, I’d love to help.

About Typographic North

Typographic North is mostly just one person: Kris Hus. He has been designing books for over 17 years. Although he has broad experience in graphic design, he specialises in printed and digital long-form publications.

His work encompasses biographies, monographs, anthologies, academic papers, newspapers, websites, and marketing emails. His main interest is the classic book, where the text is given room to breathe and ideas emerge without distractions.

Kris enjoys browsing through typefaces, looking through hundreds of footnotes, designing tables of contents, checking cross-references, and employing ample margins. The typographic details are almost invisible, yet imperative for a great publication.

He lives in Stockholm but works with clients anywhere.
